Cayman Island Travel Guide

Cayman Islands Travel Guide

The largest of the three Cayman islands is the Grand Cayman islands, hence the name! There is no denying it's a popular yet GORGEOUS destination to visit for a laid back beach vacation. Jordan and I went with my in laws for a week vacation in 2018 and had a great time. Now...Cayman islands is known to rarely get rain. Well, I must preface this post with how the weather went the week we visited...almost everyday we had torrential downpours and wind. Needless to say we did make the most of the trip and with the little pockets of sunshine we were out exploring and had a blast! Another huge blessing was we LOVED our hotel, so it made staying in at times not to bad. The Westin Grand Cayman Seven Mile Beach Resort & Spa definitely was on the top of the list of best hotels! This hotel is almost right in the middle of 7 Mile Beach which is the place to stay when you visit this island.

As you walk into the Westin, you're immediately welcomed by the aroma of a clean beachy hotel. Everyone couldn't stop talking about how gorgeous and modern the resort was and how clean it felt. As soon as you walk into the resort there are big open windows so you can see out on 7 mile beach (seen in the photo above).  After a quick and easy check in,  the bellman helped us with our luggage. When we took our first steps into our room.  We about DIED.  The room was absolutely stunning. Westin does not mess around.  There was a big TV stand with usable draws and a coffee nook underneath, a rounded couch in the corner with another table.  The bathrooms were great as they had a shower and then nice mirror area and a separate place for the toilet which is always nice when you're sharing the space with other people! Every space in this room was intentional and taken full advantage of.  We loved the balcony as you really can't get tired of waking up to that crisp, clear blue water, a hot coffee/tea and the salty air. I also noticed that each day they cleaned the pool area and seats, everything was just so clean! We all felt welcomed, safe, and family to the staff at the Westin.

Where we ate:

Ragazzi Ristorante & Pizzeria Not kidding...we joke around that we nearly lived at the restaurant! I have to preface this by saying we have gluten intolerance's in our family so the restaurants that we choose need to have gluten free options. Ragazzi's was no joke! The Italian authentic wood grilled pizza was AHmazing! the salads and pastas were also very delicious. I don't think there was one night we didn't come out of that restaurant without a full belly. The staff were just so amazing, each one went above and beyond to make sure we were SO happy and they loved to chat. The environment was clean and relaxing to enjoy a delicious dinner!

Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville This was such a fun experience as well. We sat up at the top level and we could feel the breeze with a view of the water too. They also had a rooftop pool and slide that you could host a party at of just have your little ones splash around in. At this restaurant there is also live entertainment so if you love that vibe here is the place! Downstairs they also had a cute little retail shop that had lots of touristy collectibles and clothing items you could purchase. I loved the location of this as well because there were a ton of other shops that you could visit after dinner!

Bread & Chocolate Vegan Bistro We also ate brunch at this cute little restaurant in George Town! The food was SO SO good! Every single meal the family ordered just loved it, even though only I was vegan at the time. Overall, it's a great place to visit for a health/Eco conscious breakfast, lunch and dinner option. Below are some pictures of our meals!

Things To Do:

Cayman Crystal Caves This excursion is a guided walking tour that lasts about 1 1/2 hours and it definitely was a highlight of our trip! The tour takes you through the surrounding tropical forest area and 3 caves. This was absolutely one of my favorite things, I just thought it was so amazing how there were little tiny crystals in the walls of the caves. The guided tour was actually great because we learned a lot. Our tour guide was very nice and always willing to take pictures or stop for us to explore.

Rum Point I like to think this part of the island has its own kinda vibe- there’s are people that essentially camp out at Rum Point all day every day, and you’ll understand why as soon as you see the place. It's sort of tucked away, super low-key, and has such a beautiful pier. We actually sat on the edge of the pier with our legs dangling over watching people snorkel and the eyeing the big fish that swam by. Rum Point is the ultimate spot for settling into a lounger or hammock between water-sports outings. This beach is also known for it's drinks, hence the name!

Blow Holes The blowholes is a thin stretch of beach on Grand Cayman's less popular south shore. These were hands down the biggest/best blow holes I've ever seen! Below is my husband in front of them! The experience is definitely neat as the water just blows up out of no where.  This area of the island was definitely more solitude and quaint.

Even though there was a tropical storm and it rained most of our stay we loved the time we all spent together and the fun excursions that we did get to do! Overall the Grand Cayman Island is just so beautiful, the food is amazing and I encourage you to visit if you're interested in a relaxing tropical vacation.
